The quick answer

HearthHold is a free-to-play browser MMORTS with no pay-to-win. The beta is free, and Gold is earned through gameplay and is not sold. Diamonds belong to the cosmetic system. Cosmetic choices personalise your identity without changing combat or economic power, and progression comes from playing the game.

What does a free-to-play MMORTS include?

You can begin HearthHold without purchasing the game or installing a separate client. Choose from the four tribes, build a town and learn the shared strategy world through play. You still need a supported browser, device and internet connection.

“Free to play” describes access; it does not mean a finished kingdom appears immediately. Buildings, research, troops and heroes belong to progression. The decisions and time you invest remain part of the experience.

The beta can change as the game develops. This guide describes the current design rather than making a promise about every future release.

Gold is a gameplay currency

HearthHold distinguishes Gold from a paid shortcut to power. Gold is earned through gameplay and is not sold. Check the current rewards and shop descriptions in the game to understand where it comes from and what a particular use provides.

Even an earned currency deserves a plan. Before spending, read the effect and cost, then compare it with what you are trying to accomplish. Spending because a balance is available is different from spending because an option advances your objective.

Use quests and the live reward panels as the authority for current earning opportunities. Avoid relying on an old list of reward amounts during an evolving beta.

Cosmetics change identity, not power

The cosmetic system uses Diamonds for personalisation. Diamond purchases, player trading and cash-outs are not available in the current pilot; collection previews are free. Do not assume that a listed Diamond price means a real-money purchase is currently available. Read the collection or item details before choosing a cosmetic. An avatar, border or visual identity choice serves a different purpose from improving a field, researching a technology or developing a hero.

The key distinction is mechanical: cosmetic choices do not add combat or economic power. Looking established does not make a kingdom stronger. Judge another player's situation through game information, not the decoration surrounding their name.

Do not confuse Diamonds with Gold, or assume one currency can be used wherever the other appears. The live interface shows the currency required for an action.

What does anti pay-to-win mean in practice?

A no-pay-to-win strategy game separates spending from competitive power. In HearthHold, real money cannot buy Gold, resources, troops, speedups, protection or combat power. Diamonds belong to cosmetic identity, and real-money Diamond purchases are not available in the current pilot.

This does not mean every kingdom has equal strength. Experienced players can have larger armies, better-developed towns and coordinated alliances. Those advantages come from progression and decisions. Free-to-play describes access; anti pay-to-win describes the boundary between spending and power.

Start with a manageable plan: follow your current quests, develop the resources blocking the next step and understand your army before committing it. An alliance can help you learn and coordinate, but it does not replace the need to know what your town needs.

A free game can still contain meaningful tradeoffs. You choose between development, research, troops and other commitments. Those choices are the strategy, rather than an obstacle a cosmetic purchase is meant to remove.

If you are ready to begin, use the beginner's guide for your first session. If you are comparing tribes, the tribe guide explains their different identities without inventing a universal winner.
